Best Bird Cage Stands for 2020

Getting the perfect birdcage for your pet is a pretty essential and complicated task. Is it large enough? Is it easy for you to clean? Will it keep your bird secure when they need to be inside?

But once the decision is made, the search doesn’t stop there. The cage will have to be positioned perfectly, and this involves standing (or hanging) it from the right piece of equipment. A birdcage should be quite high up, free from draughts or excessive heat and stable.

You can buy stands or hooks, but always check your cage to see what is best suited. Below are our picks of the best.

    Buying Guide

    Size

Understandably, your birdcage stand should be as big if not bigger than your cage. This is to create a stable base.

Measure your cage, and ensure the top of your stand will give you enough room. You will also need to ensure it fits in your home, and in the space for your cage. Remember that birds like if their cage is against at least one flat wall to create a bit of a feeling of safety.

If you’re getting a hanging stand, check the height of the stand (both in terms of your bird’s comfort and your room), as well as the size and stability of the pole.

    Types

You can buy a stand on which your cage sits on or a hanging hook which is like a pole that your cage swings from.

Hanging cages are great for saving a bit of floor space. Your bird is high up, which is often more natural for them, and they can also be kept out of reach from other pets or young children. You will need to ensure your cage can be hung, and the hanger will support your cage’s weight.

Hooks are available as self-standing poles, or as chains which hang from the ceiling. We would always go for the former to save your home from too many changes.

Stands are self-explanatory. Similar to a fish tank stand, or even a television stand, they sit on the floor to keep your cage higher and away from the ground. Because your cage sits on top of the stand, it needs to be large enough to support it. But as it will be quite a prominent piece of furniture, you will also need to get a stand which fits in with your decor.

    Other Buyers Ask...

How do I hang a birdcage?

You need to select the perfect location first of all. Keep it quite sheltered and protected, yet with still a bit of space for the cage to move slightly.

Your cage should have a dedicated hook to ensure it can be hung. If it does, it is simply a case of hanging this onto the stand hook.

It may be worth checking that the stand will take both the cage and the weight before you pop your bird into the cage for obvious safety reasons. Also, check that it is in a suitable position because birds won’t like it if you move them about too much.
